Lenten Post Day 23

Thursday, March 3

Jeremiah 10:11-24, Romans 5:12-21, John 8:21-32

Q. 51. What is forbidden in the Second Commandment?

A. The Second Commandment forbiddeth the worshiping of God by images, or any other way not appointed in his Word.

Q. 52. What are the reasons annexed to the Second Commandment?

A. The reasons annexed to the Second Commandment are:

God’s sovereignty over us, his propriety in us, and the zeal he hath to his own worship.

Prayer: Hear my prayer, O Lord; let my cry come to you. Do not hide your face from me in the day of my distress. Incline your ear to me; answer me speedily in the day when I call. (Psalm 102:1-2)

Reflection: Truth is a funny thing. We spend most of our lives hiding from the truth: avoiding a confrontation by telling a white lie, boasting about who we really are and are capable of, seeing ourselves age in the mirror and turning away, or not asking for forgiveness for our sins from God, others or ourselves. We are afraid of the truth. But, Jesus teaches us here that salvation is to be found in the truth. And, that we can only trust the truth through faith.
