Lenten Post Day 29

Wednesday, March 9

Jeremiah 18:1-11, Romans 8:1-11, John 6:27-40

Q. 65. What is forbidden in the Fifth Commandment?

A. The Fifth Commandment forbiddeth the neglecting of, or doing anything against, the honor and duty which belongeth to everyone in their several places and relations.

Q. 66. What is the reason annexed to the Fifth Commandment?

A. The reason annexed to the Fifth Commandment is a promise of long life and prosperity (as far as it shall serve for God’s glory, and their own good) to all such as keep this commandment.

Prayer: Lord you are my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? You are the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud, be gracious to me and answer me! O God of my salvation!  (Psalm 27:1, 7, 9)

Reflection: We are in a constant struggle between the Spirit within us and sin.  Our sinful nature makes us choose sin over righteousness.  God sent Jesus as a sacrifice for our sins and raised Him from the dead so that we may know the path to righteousness.  It is the Spirit within us that guides us to Jesus and back to God and helps us to overcome our sin.
